Six ministers have been set to come before Parliament during the week of November 10th, 2023, to answer questions on the Akosombo Dam's excess water leakage and the Garu brutalities, among other things.
Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, Minister of Energy, Mr. Albert Kan Dapaah, Minister of National Security, and Mr. Francis Asenso-Boakye, Minister of Works and Housing, are among them.
Mr Samuel Abu Jinapor, Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Mr. Kwaku Agyemang-Manu, Minister of Health, and Mr Kwasi Amoako-Attah, Minister of Roads and Highways, round out the list.
Mr. Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin, Deputy Majority Leader and MP for Effutu said the ministers will address 39 questions in the Housing Business Statement for Friday, November 10.
On November 8, he added, Dr Opoku Prempeh will brief the House on the Volta River Authority's (VRA) spilling of the Akosombo Hydro Electricity and Kpong dams, as well as the severe impacts on communities along the Volta River Basin.
On Thursday, November 9, Mr Dapaah will deliver a briefing on the alleged brutality of the military against citizens in Garu and Tempane and their environs in the Upper East Region on October 9.
This comes after several adolescents in the region allegedly attacked some National Security personnel on October 24.
Mr Agyemang-Manu's press conference on Thursday, November 9, will focus on the closure of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital's Renal Unit's Out-Patients Department (OPD).
“Mr Speaker, per the Draft Agenda for this Meeting, honorable members have already filed about 747 Questions,” Mr Afenyo-Markin said.
“Again, honorable members, having returned from the long recess, have also started filing new questions reflecting the needs of their constituents.”
He urged the Ministers of State to endeavor to attend the House to respond to questions whenever they were scheduled to do so.
He encouraged committees of the House with referrals to expedite work on the same for consideration.
