 Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, former Minister of Agriculture and New Patriotic Party flagbearer contender has conceded defeat to Dr. Mahadu Bawumia ahead of the formal pronouncement of results.

Afriyie Akoto told Joy News' Elton John Brobbey that he had already contacted the Vice President to congratulate him and to pledge of his support in enabling the NPP to "Break the 8."


"First and foremost, let me congratulate the Vice President on such a decisive victory." It indicates that the New Patriotic Party has spoken loudly and clearly when it picked Dr. Bawumia to lead us into the elections next year.

"I have already called him to congratulate him on that and we will be meeting at the stadium for the official announcement and formalities but finally we are drawing a line in a very major history event for the party which is choosing our leader for the coming years."
While congratulating Dr. Bawumia on his triumph, the former Minister expressed his regret at losing.


He stated that he entered the contest expecting to win, but he was grateful to the delegates who voted in his favor.

"...I really appreciate the delegates who stood by me and voted for me, it means that my message went down well with them," he told the crowd on Saturday.
